What distinguishes Altairnano from other nanotechnology companies?

Practical Science
We have a strong research and development program. More than 30% of our people hold Ph.D.s in materials science, chemical engineering and related fields. Through their efforts, we have more than 100 patents and patent applications. Yet, unlike some nanotechnology companies that are content to be R&D boutiques, we’re dedicated to taking our innovations to market.

Each idea must pass scientific and commercialization feasibility tests before being developed. Does the potential product have a real world application? Is it scalable? Can it be manufactured cost-effectively?

Innovative technology platform for diverse applications
Our flexible, patented manufacturing process provides precise control over nanomaterial properties, including surface area, morphology, particle size and purity. It can create a variety of material structures from hollow and porous nanomaterials of titanium dioxide through specialized coated ceramic materials and compounds. The materials can be used in applications ranging from batteries, thermal spray coatings, paint pigments and air and water purification systems to bio-compatible materials and coatings and phosphate binding drugs.

Our technology produces ceramic nanomaterial with uniquely controlled particle size, surface area, morphology and purity.

A solid foundation for ongoing business
Altairnano is committed to being a long-term leading developer and supplier of ceramic nanomaterials. That commitment is backed by strong funding from grants and investments as well as a progressive business model of product and license development and sales, facilitated by partnerships with industry and academic leaders.

An environmentally sensitive business
Altairnano is also committed to ensuring our business is safe for people and the environment. To that end, we have taken a leadership role in the product stewardship of nanomaterials.

We have initiated programs with the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and major universities to develop the metrics, measurement techniques and analytical framework for the safe manufacturing and handling of nanomaterials.

In addition, we’re involved in recycling materials for economic as well as environmental improvement. For example, we’re working with a partner to create titanium dioxide pigment from the waste material of oil sand extraction.
